Hi everyone, I live in Auckland, New Zealand where I own a studio apartment with my husband in an eco-village called Earthsong. We are currently selling this apartment because we have decided to move to another eco-village development called Atamai

After living in Earthsong for 2 years we seriously couldn't imagine not living on co-housing again. It's such an amazing experience coming from normal suburbia to a supportive and friendly community life. Eearthsong has been so great, all the houses are owned as stand-alone, individual titles. We have shared common grounds, an shared orchard & pond, a huge community house with lounge, dinning room, commercial kitchen, kids play room, guest accommodation, shared laundry and a teen room. It's very much the heart of our community. We have common meals together twice a week where a different cooking team of 4-5 people prepare a meal for the entire community. It's just fantastic. So why are we moving out? Good question, mostly because our apartment, although stunning, is a little too small for our growing family (I'm due to have our first baby in 4 weeks!). So we've decided to go and join the new eco-village development in the South Island called Atamai.

I swear my husband and I must be slightly nuts to be undertaking this huge move (not to mention the fact that we will also be designing and building our new home!) all with a new baby! But what's life without a little fun and excitement hay :)

Ok, I guess that's our story, now back to reading about all of you ;)

Greetings,

Welcome onboard.. apparently the flies have now elected me lord. As I do with other communities, I occasionally seek to add and/or improve on the communities' interests to make them more accurate. Well, we currently have 130 interests so we have room for 20 more.. or we can remove some if they are not appropriate.

I'd also like to invite people to submit icons to serve as default potential community userpics as we have none currently.

Please also feel free to go back and edit/add tags to previous postings!

and for those of you interested who arn't already members, there is also off_grid

Hello everyone,

I think living in an ecovillage is the way for me I just wanted anyone who has experience or knowledge help me out with a few questions.

First what is your favorite place that you have visited/stayed at?

Second I'm worried that if I leave and move there what if I stay for a while and then something happens and I have to leave. Is it hard going back to the "normal" life or can you partake in these forever? I'm hoping to find a place to call home. To live and settle down growing with people and never coming back to the 9-5 suburban life. I will never fit in here and I'm looking for something new.

Any advice or comments are welcome. =]

Thank you.

I am writing on behalf of the AAYP - the American Association of Young People - a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization designed to provide young Americans under 40 products and services that are relevant to them and their future. Our mission is to develop a strong membership base from the 170 million Americans under 40 and use that membership to leverage more economic and political power for dealing with corporations and Congress on behalf of American youth.

One of our main focuses, being a youth-oriented organization, is sustainable development/being green/etc because we're going to be around (hopefully) for quite some time to come, ergo, the decisions we make today will affect us today and tomorrow. Please share your thoughts, concerns, ideas, and expertise with us!

Hello everyone. I have just launched a new website about environmental issues from dangers of deodorant to energy use to toxic living. I really need objective opinions and critiques on how to improve the site. Do you find the content interesting, does it catch you attention, would you want to see something else there? I'm still working on it and updating it. This is very important to me, so please guys, if you have time take a look and tell me what you think. I am new to building websites. http://www.downwithbasics.com
(moderators, if you find this post inappropriate, by all means, delete it. I just thought that this would be the right type of community to ask for opinions on the subject environment. I am sorry if I have misread the rules).

Last week, I posted a notice about this event on January 31.  I thought it was for people interested in starting cohousing communities.  I learned today that the event is for people interested in investing in cohousing communities.

Even if you are still interested in starting a cohousing community, I recommend that you contact Cohousing Partners anyway.  One goal of that company is to put people who want to start communities in touch with people who want to invest in communities.
